My Anxiety and Me

This blog post is on a bit more of a personal vein than normal so bare with me. So, I have always struggled with anxiety. I haven't always realized it but looking back can see the signs. I used to not be able to go to my friends' houses for sleepovers when I was younger because I would get so worked up that I would be sick.  My school exams made me so anxious, and during my GCSEs was when I had my first panic attack.  I am by no means over my anxiety.  I am in a relatively stress free point in my life currently, but I know that travelling and going to university are definitely going to be very difficult for me.  And even though my life right now is pretty under control, I haven't had a panic attack in at least 6 months, there are still things I struggle with such as not being on time.

This year I really want to tackle this head on. I know that I will probably always approach life with an anxious mind because that is just who I am, but I really want to find some good coping mechanisms for the future.

But for now, I really wanted to share some ways so far that I found found to help me, and maybe could help someone else if they are struggling with something similar.

Lean on your friends and family
When you are having a hard time, whatever it is about, it is always important to let your loved ones support you. You would want to help them if they were struggling too, so let them return the favor.

Give yourself a reality check and keep things in perspective
I find often find it really helpful to try and think of the worst case scenario, and its never as bad as I've allowed myself to think. I always try and keep my horizons low and just think about the next thing rather than getting overwhelmed.

Find a safe space
For me, home is really important and its somewhere I feel safe. Making sure you have somewhere where you feel safe and comfortable is important.

I know this was quite personal but most people reading this probably know this about me anyway. Thank you for being supportive and if any if this helps anyone then I'll be very happy.
